Pro Rural, in collaboration with 37 Assam Rifles Battalion, Ghaspani, conducted a one day solid waste management training for the Assam Rifles personnel at Assam Rifles conference hall, Ghaspani, on February 12.
Commandant of 37 AR, Colonel Ananya Boral, shared to the participants that change did not happened “right away” in any society and added that it needs a conscious and dedicated effort to actualize the desired outcome. He said solid waste management scenario in Nagaland needed to be consciously and dedicatedly mitigated by every responsible citizen. He further added that Assam Rifles would participate as a “civic concern” in the state.
Adahe Neli from Pro Rural as the resource person for the training said mismanagement of waste is the root cause for many prevalent sicknesses in the Northeast region of India. He also pointed out that if waste is managed at source, it would be the first and best step of waste management which could be carried out by every household and individuals. Further, Neil said good waste management directly leads to good health and healthy environment.
Other resource persons at the training from Pro Rural, who took the technical session, were Kahuli Swu, Athilu Khrasi and L Kamo.
There was an interactive session at the end of the presentation where many expressed keen interest on waste to wealth approach. Concerns were also raised on rapid hazardous waste dumping such as batteries and electronic waste that called for urgent attention.
