18 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 6 Sector Assam Rifles has busted an illegal ammunition manufacturing unit in Peren town on February 17.
Basing on specific information about the movement of an arms peddler in general area Tening, 18 Assam Rifles conducted an operation and intercepted one individual moving from Peren to Katang on motorcycle and seized some unauthorised ammunition. During the search, 750 gm gun power, 250 percussion caps and assorted ammunition were recovered. The accused has been identified as Teulak (40) resident of Katang, Manipur.
The apprehended individual alongwith recovered items was handed over to Tening Police Station. During spot questioning, the individual revealed that he had purchased these illegal ammunition and items from Peren town. 18 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 6 Sector Assam Rifles thereafter launched search in Peren town. During the operation, troops unearthed an illegal ammunition manufacturing unit at Peren and apprehended the owner of the unit. The recoveries during the search included approximately 10 kg gun powder, 13, 417 .22 live rounds, 1263 cartridges of 12 Bore, 197 live rounds assorted ammunition, percussion caps, empty cases and equipment used for manufacturing of ammunition. The apprehended individual was identified as Raghu Nath Das (40), resident of Peren town. He was handed over to Peren Police Station alongwith recovered ammunition and items.
