AR organises volleyball tourney in Peren district

The Assam Rifles, stationed in the Peren district organized the much-anticipated Assam Rifles’ Unity Spike Challenge, an inter-village volleyball tournament from March 11 to 18 at six Company Operating Bases of Assam Rifles located in Jalukie, Peren, Ahthibung, Tening, Heningkunglwa and Pedi respectively.


In the final showdown played at Assam Rifles location in Jalukie, Tening village team exhibited exceptional teamwork and resilience, overcoming every challenge thrown their way to clinched the championship title. The runners-up, representing Ahthibung village, displayed commendable sportsmanship and skill, pushing the Tening Village team to their limits in a thrilling match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the final point.


The winner Tening village was awarded with cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- along with a trophy, sports items and volleyball kits for all team members. The first runners-up Ahthibung village received Rs. 15,000/- cash prize along with sports items and volleyball kits for all team members. The second runners-up Punglwa village received Rs. 10,000/- along with sports items, 4th position – Old Jalukie, 5th position – Peletkie and 6th position – Nkwareu received sports items as consolation prizes respectively.


The unity spike challenge, an Assam Rifles initiative aimed at fostering unity and collaboration among neighbouring communities, brought together passionate volleyball enthusiasts from various villages. With over 40 teams participating from various villages across the region, the enthusiasm and passion for volleyball were palpable from the very start of the tournament.


The competition was fierce, with teams giving their all to secure a spot in the final. Throughout the tournament, teams demonstrated unwavering determination and sportsmanship, captivating spectators with their skilful plays and strategic manoeuvres.
Assam Rifles’ Unity Spike Challenge 2024 not only celebrated the love for the sport but also highlighted the significant commitment of the Assam Rifles in fostering bonds of friendship and unity within the communities of Nagaland.
