Assam Rifles seized 80 tons of areca nuts worth Rs 10 Crores (approx.) on June 27 at National Highway 29, Kohima Town. A press release by HQ IGAR(N) said the Assam Rifles “prevented illegal transportation” of areca nuts which were being smuggled from Jessami towards Dimapur in two pick-up vehicles and three trucks.
AR said the seized items were then handed over to Customs Department, Kohima for further legal proceedings.
