Chief of the Indian Army, Gen. Bipin Rawat arrived at Dimapur Thursday to oversee the operational preparedness of the Army’s Rangapahar Spear Corps.
In a communiqué, PRO defence informed that the Army chief would be visiting important locations in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur on December 28 and 29.
Gen. Rawat will be briefed at various Army and Assam Rifles Headquarters. Gen. Rawat also called on Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang to discuss vital aspects pertaining the State. Besides the prevailing security situation in these States, facilitating the ongoing peace process as well as improving employment generation opportunities, will also figure in the planned discussions. During the visit, the Army chief will be accompanied by Lt. Gen. Abhay Krishna, GOC-in-Chief Eastern Command and Lt. Gen. Anil Chauhan, GOC Spear Corps. It may be noted that the Spear Corps, besides undertaking extensive counter insurgency operations in the three North East states, is also responsible for conduct of operations along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh.
