General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army Staff, arrived in Kohima on February 3.
Public Relations Officer (Defence), Col C Konwer, in a press release stated that General Rawat was received at the helipad by Major General PC Nair, Inspector General Assam Rifles, North (IGAR-N). During the visit, he reviewed the security situation in Nagaland and along the Indo- Myanmar border. The Army Chief was briefed by the IGAR-N on the overall security situation in Nagaland. General Rawat was accompanied by Lieutenant General MM Naravane, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command and Lieutenant General Rajeev Sirohi, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps.
The press release added that General Bipin Rawat expressed satisfaction on the commitment and preparedness of the Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and tranquility in the state. He complimented the troops for their sustained hard work, professionalism and devotion to duty in their conduct of people friendly operations in difficult operational conditions.
According to the press release, the Army Chief is scheduled to visit Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh next.
The Chief of Army Staff, had arrived at Rangapahar Military station, Dimapur on Saturday on a two-day visit during which he will review operational preparedness of army formations in the region.
