Army engages youth through media internship programme

As part of a pilot Media Internship Programme initiated by the Indian Army, a group of selected students visited Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) [HQ IGAR (N)] during their 10-day course at Rangapahar Military Station.
The internship aims to provide young students with first-hand exposure to the Army’s multifaceted role in national security, nation-building, and fostering peace and development in the North East. Interns are gaining insights into operational and administrative aspects of the Army while creating content such as articles, posters, videos, and short films, contributing to information warfare and narrative-building efforts.
At HQ IGAR (N), the students interacted with PRO Defence Kohima, who briefed them on media management, followed by an interaction with the Inspector General, Assam Rifles (North). The session offered valuable perspectives on Nagaland’s security dynamics, the Army’s role in maintaining peace and stability, and its contributions to community development.
The interns also visited a local unit to observe the routine functioning of an Assam Rifles battalion, and toured historic landmarks in Kohima, including the War Cemetery and Eco Park, gaining appreciation of the region’s heritage and the sacrifices of the Second World War.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the Inspector General underscored the importance of constructive youth engagement and encouraged interns to share their experiences widely to promote authentic and balanced narratives about the Armed Forces and the region.
