Arsenal edge Chelsea 1-0 to reach Carabao Cup final

LONDON, FEB 4 (IANS)

Arsenal booked their place in the Carabao Cup final with a dramatic 1-0 win over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium, sealing a 4-2 aggregate victory. Former Chelsea forward Kai Havertz, only recently back from injury, struck in the dying minutes to send the Gunners to Wembley for their first final in the competition in eight years.
Arsenal carried a slender 3-2 advantage from the first leg, courtesy of goals from Viktor Gyokeres, Ben White and Martin Zubimendi. Confidently starting the second leg, they dictated possession and tempo, but Chelsea’s compact back five restricted clear opportunities in a cagey opening hour.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior introduced Estevao and Cole Palmer in search of a breakthrough, but Arsenal’s defensive organisation held firm. As the visitors pressed late on, Arsenal broke away, with Havertz showing composure to round goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and finish decisively, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home fans.
The victory ensures Arsenal’s return to Wembley, where they will face either Manchester City or Newcastle United, who contest the other semi-final on Wednesday. For Arsenal, this marks a significant milestone, as they aim to end their eight-year wait for a Carabao Cup final appearance and add to their ambitions across multiple competitions this season.
Following their semi-final triumph, Arsenal will resume Premier League duties at home against Sunderland before travelling to west London to face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on February 12.
