The 39th general conference of the Atoizu Range Students’ Union (ARSU) concluded with a grand valedictory service on January 9 with Vihuto Asumi, general secretary of Sumi Hoho (SH) as the special guest and speaker here at the Aizuto mission church.
Asumi, speaking on the topic “Evoking past, visualizing future,” extended his warm greetings to the student delegates and expressed his pleasure to be a part and parcel of the event which he said was his maiden stint as a speaker. He has highlighted the importance of “Sutsah” (Sumi language) and the efforts of the Sumi Literature Board under the aegis of Sumi Hoho.
On quality education, Vihuto asserted that “quality education breeds quality citizens” while citing examples of various Sumi leaders of the area who had also acclaimed huge figure(s) in the Naga society.
He, however, lamented that those legacy by the elder generation are passing by and challenged the students to fill into those shoes with hard work and quality education/learning.
“The area having largest concentration of high ranking officers, leaders or politicians, this region/range is one of the least developed area in Nagaland,” he said and exhorted the students to bring about changes for the development in various aspects.
He vehemently condemned the “election system” which he said was the most and gravest obstacle to development since the candidates spend fortune to win the election which in return hampers development as the concerned candidate(s) firstly concentrate to recover the money spent during the election.
While pointing out that students’ body are the most powerful pressure group amongst all NGOs or civil societies/organization, he urged them to breed quality leaders not money oriented leaders.
He concluded by citing various positive and negative aspects of information technology, mass media, internet and social media etc and cautioned the delegates to be careful in usage of those technologies.
All together 768 student delegates attended the conference and the election for the next tenure 2015-16 in which Tokugha Awomi, pastor of Atoizu Baptist Church, administered the oath of allegiance and said the dedicatory prayer for the newly elected officials.
