Arunachal launches teleradiology hub at TRIHMS

ITANAGAR, JUN 22 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge on Monday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Teleradiology hub along with a Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun near here.
The minister also launched a new, colour-coded set of bedsheets and pillow covers for patient beds at the TRIHMS, which will be scaled up across all state hospitals based on feedback.
Speaking to reporters, Wahge said the digital healthcare initiative, under the National Health Mission (NHM), is crucial for patients in far-flung, remote areas who cannot easily travel to the state capital for specialised care.
“This facility will be a boon for remote community health centres, primary health centres, zonal hospitals, and general hospitals that possess radiology equipment but lack a radiologist,” Wahge said.
Under the new system, X-rays, CT scans, and other diagnostic images captured at remote locations can be securely transmitted online to expert radiologists at the TRIHMS hub for faster, accurate digital reporting.
The minister noted that this digital transformation eliminates the need for physical films and paperwork, significantly speeding up diagnosis and timely treatment.
Wahge, however, expressed deep concern over the severe shortage of specialised medical professionals in the state. He disclosed that a recent recruitment drive for a dozen radiologist posts drew zero applications.
“It is a matter of great concern that not a single person applied to these advertised posts. I urge parents and the general public to ponder over this issue and encourage their children to pursue diverse professional medical courses so they can serve their own state and humanity,” he said.
The launch event was attended by top health officials, including the directors of Health Services, Family Welfare, Medical Education, TRIHMS, and the National Health Mission (NHM) mission director.
