Itanagar, Jun 20 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Saturday said that the state and the northeast have undergone a remarkable transformation over the past 12 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emerging as a region marked by improved connectivity, modern infrastructure, peace and expanding economic opportunities.
In a series of posts on X, Mein highlighted the developmental strides made across the region, saying Arunachal Pradesh has particularly benefited from major infrastructure projects that have strengthened connectivity and accelerated growth.
“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Northeast has witnessed an unprecedented development journey,” Mein said, adding that the foundations of growth have been strengthened through “over 96 per cent railway electrification, 100 per cent household electrification, eight new greenfield airports, significant railway expansion, and enhanced connectivity across the region.”
The deputy chief minister said the northeast today stands as “a vibrant hub of peace, opportunity, and economic progress, driving India’s growth story forward.”
Referring to the Centre’s sustained focus on the region, Mein said that for Prime Minister Modi, “the Northeast has always been an integral part of India’s aspirations and progress.”
“Over the past 12 years, sustained attention, unprecedented investment, and people-centric policies have helped unlock the region’s immense potential, bringing it closer to the heart of India’s development journey,” he said.
Highlighting the changing image of the region, Mein said the Northeast has evolved into “a symbol of confidence, cultural pride, and economic dynamism.”
“With its rich heritage gaining wider recognition and its growing contribution to national growth, the region is shaping a new chapter in India’s rise,” he added.
Stating that the region has redefined development over the last decade, Mein said, “In 12 years, the Northeast has crafted a new definition of development.”
“The region, once known for its remoteness and challenges, has today become a key hub of India’s development story, equipped with better connectivity, modern infrastructure, peace, digital empowerment, healthcare facilities, and new economic opportunities,” the deputy chief minister said.
According to him, roads, railways, air links, waterways and welfare schemes have infused fresh momentum into the region, making development more inclusive and far-reaching. “This is not just development, but a transformative journey of trust, participation, and prosperity. A Changing Northeast, A Rising India,” he said. The deputy chief minister also underscored the significant improvements in connectivity, which he described as one of the biggest achievements of the past decade.
“There was a time when connectivity remained one of the biggest challenges across much of the Northeast. Today, soaring bridges, expanding railway networks, and world-class infrastructure are bringing communities closer and creating new avenues for growth,” he said.
“Over the past 12 years, the region has undergone a historic transformation, laying the foundation for a more connected, prosperous, and vibrant Northeast,” he added.
Mein further said that strengthened connectivity, upgraded railway stations and modern infrastructure are bringing the region closer than ever before, while improved accessibility is fostering economic opportunities, boosting tourism and accelerating development.
Citing Arunachal Pradesh’s strategically important Sela Tunnel as a landmark achievement, Mein said the project has transformed access to the frontier district of Tawang.
“A route once disrupted by heavy snowfall is now accessible throughout the year. The Sela Tunnel has revolutionised connectivity to Tawang, providing all-weather access, enhancing mobility, strengthening strategic infrastructure, and creating new opportunities for growth and development in the region,” he added.
