ASHA worker walks eight hours acrosshills with polio vaccine carrier in Manipur

CorrespondentIMPHAL, OCT 15

Imphal Raj Bhavan on Wednesday saluted an ASHA worker from Manipur’s Tamenglong district for her dedication and spirit of service.
As an ASHA worker, Maidiniliu Prinmai wife of Maijinlakbou Prinmai of Nenluang (Atangkhullen) village in Tamenglong district walked eight hours across hills with the vaccine career on her back to ensure polio drops reaches in time to the remote villages – Attangkhunou and Attangkhullen.
When the news of her struggle to reach the remote villages where she was assigned for Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme went viral on the internet, Imphal Raj Bhavan saluted her, in a post on its social media platforms. “ASHA worker Meidinliu (51) walked 8 hours across hills to reach Attangkhunou and Attangkhullen villages for the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme -delivering essential health services and medicines to ensure no one is left behind.” “A salute to her dedication and spirit of service!,” read the Raj Bhavan posts.
The Raj Bhavan also attached her photos with the posts.
“Let us never overlook those who lead by example – even in silence,” one Wijubou Abonmai wrote while commenting on the Raj Bhavan’s post on its official Facebook page.
Abonmai called the ASHA worker as aunty and further wrote “Too often, the tireless efforts and sacrifices of many go unnoticed. But make no mistake – it is these quiet, steadfast individuals who hold our society together.”
“What our society needs today is more people with unshakable integrity and relentless dedication,” he further wrote in the comment box.
While the news circulated on the internet, it was written that she represents many other brave and selflessly working ASHA workers in the most challenging circumstances. They are real life heroes.
“We must appreciate the dedicated and sincere person,” it added.
In Manipur, like in other parts of the country, the directorate of family welfare services launched the three-day Polio Sub-National Immunization Day on October 12.
A total of 3,16,671 beneficiaries across 3,167 booths were targeted under this three-day immunization programme – with booth day on October 12 followed by house-to-house visits on October 13 and 14.
The government initiative aimed to ensure a Polio-free future for every child.
