
The department of health and family welfare (H&FW) has been conducting trainings for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) on management and care of COVID-19 in children of paediatric age group and COVID-19 care in new born children (neonates). As part of the programme, the department conducted training for ASHAs in Kohima and Wokha on August 23.
Kohima: Office of chief medical officer (CMO), Kohima in collaboration with district health society (DHS), NHM, department of health and family welfare (H&FW) conducted a training for urban ASHAs on paediatric care in COVID-19 at PMTI hall on August 23.
In a press release, CMO Kohima informed that ASHAs were taught on preparedness and management of any sudden surge of COVID-19 care.
They were also trained on danger signs, surveillance, signs and symptoms of COVID in Paediatric age group children, prevailing myths conception of COVID-19 in children.
Further, the ASHAs were also informed about roles and responsibilities in the ward, colonies and community.

It also added that the major component of the training was for preparedness and management of neonates on COVID-19.
Earlier, urban ASHAs were trained by urban consultant Subonglemla Jamir and DCM Rokoseno Thapo.
Wokha: Training on paediatric care in COVID-19 and psychological wellness was organised by medical department for NUHM and Wokha sadar ASHAs at the conference hall of the CMO, Wokha on August 23.
In a press release, CMO office Wokha informed that deputy chief medical officer, Wokha, Dr. Zuben Kikon welcomed the participants and highlighted on vulnerability of children to delta variant of COVID-19 during the third wave.
Dr. Zuben emphasised on good nutrition for children to boost immune system and also pointed out how children should not be exposed to crowded public spaces in order to avoid the disease.
“Vaccination of age appropriate group is the key to control the spread,” he concluded.
The release added that various sessions were conducted by district community mobiliser, Echungbeni Tsanglao and block ASHA coordinator, Mhonlumi Kithan covering topics on care for mother and neonates born with COVID-19, checklist for surveillance and monitoring by Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and ASHAs and Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMNCI) approach to paediatric case.
