Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “personal attention” to the Assam flood, which has claimed 68 lives so far while over 4.45 lakh people continue to reel under the deluge.
He said the state government has been able to reach all affected villages and was working on a war footing to provide relief to the flood-hit population.
PM Modi on Tuesday held a meeting with Union ministers and BJP MPs belonging to Assam at the Parliament House complex to review the state’s flood situation and later said on X the Centre was working closely with the Assam government in providing relief to the affected people.
Sharing Modi’s post on X on reviewing the deluge with Union ministers and BJP MPs from the state, Sarma said, “Adarniya Pradhan Mantri ji, thank you for your personal attention to this matter and taking on-the-ground updates regarding the Assam floods.”
“Under your leadership, we are working on a war footing to provide relief to our people, and so far we have been able to reach every affected village,” the chief minister said.
He said power connectivity has also been restored to a majority of the flood-affected areas and all those rescued are sheltered in relief camps with proper food and medical facilities.
“We will keep working 24/7 to ensure swift response in this hour and thereafter present a comprehensive rehabilitation roadmap to assist our people, which shall be rooted in the principles of Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation),” Sarma said, thanking the PM for “closely monitoring the situation and offering all assistance to us”.
The prime minister had called up Sarma on Saturday to enquire about the prevailing situation and offered full support to the Assam government in dealing with the ongoing flood havoc.
