Jorhat (Assam), Aug 7 (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said his government will conduct a door-to-door assessment of flood damage in the four worst-hit districts from August 9 to 30.
He asserted that no affected household will be left out and the government will provide maximum relief permissible as per norms.
“Concluded an extensive training meeting with officials from the 4 districts affected by #AssamFloods. From 9 to 30 August, our teams will undertake a door-to-door assessment of damage,” Sarma said in a social media post after chairing a meeting with the officials of Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Golaghat districts.
He said the district commissioners, co-district commissioners and circle officers must adopt a compassionate approach and ensure no affected household is left out.
“Officers concerned will upload images of the damage on a dedicated app. Thereafter, an assessment will be made by August 30, followed by re-verification with affected families,” Sarma said.
The chief minister maintained that the “guiding principle is clear: assess every genuine loss and provide the maximum relief permissible under existing norms”.
At least 97 people have been killed and over 1.68 lakh people remained affected in the deluge, with four eastern Assam districts bearing the worst impact.
