Assam ministers carpool to cut down on fuel costs

Guwahati, Jun 6 (PTI): Assam ministers carpooled to the state BJP headquarters, Vajpayee Bhavan, on Saturday in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to cut down on unnecessary fuel costs.
Minister Pijush Hazarika said in a social media post that he and his cabinet colleagues carpooled to honour the call of both the PM and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who lauded the initiative. “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji has asked us all to be prudent in public conduct and Hon’ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa dangoriya has also asked us all to cut down on unnecessary costs,” Hazarika posted on X. “Today me and my cabinet colleagues carpooled on our way to Vajpayee Bhavan to honour the call of both our leaders,” he said.
Responding to the post, the chief minister said, “Good initiative. Public representatives should set an example and follow austerity measures like carpooling to respond to Adarniya @narendramodi ji’s call in wake of the current situation.”
The Assam cabinet has decided to take several austerity measures to reduce fuel consumption in view of the prevailing global situation.
The prime minister had called for austerity and fuel-saving measures, warning that the military conflict in West Asia could trigger a crisis “bigger than the global COVID pandemic”.
