
Assam Rifles, the oldest para-military force of India, continues its civic action programs to uplift the lives of the rural population and to improve relations between security forces and the civilian masses. Following are some reports of their activities.
Phek Battalion medical camp at Molen village: Phek Battalion conducted a free medical and check up camp at Molen village, Phek district on January 2.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), a specially constituted team under Assam Rifles Medical Officer examined 96 people. Free medicines were also provided to ailing patients. Apart from medical assistance, basic awareness on epidemic diseases and precautions against them were taught.
Chieswema Battalion free medical camp in Botsa: Chieswema battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a free medical camp on December 19 at Botsa village under Chiephobozou sub-division, Kohima.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment to local residents of remote areas devoid of requisite medical facilities. A specially constituted medical team of two doctors and four medical staff under chief medical officer commandant Ch Saleo Mao conducted the medical camp where the team treated patients besides providing medicines to the needy. Apart from providing medical assistance, basic knowledge on health education including precaution from common viral diseases was also taught. A total of 197 patients — 67 male, 93 female and 37 children — were treated during the medical camp.
Mokokchung Battalion free medical camp at Nian village: Mokokchung battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a free medical camp at Nian village, under Longleng district on December 19.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), people from all walks of life and belonging to various age groups were given basic diagnosis as per their illness along with necessary prescribed medicines. The village chairman and GB also attended the camp, where 294 patients — 82 male, 131 female and 81 children — were treated by the team for various ailments and free medicines were also distributed to the people attending the camp.
Phek Battalion free medical camp in New Thewati: Phek battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a free medical and check up camp in New Thewati village on December 19.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment to the local populace of New Thewati and neighbouring villages who are devoid of requisite medical facilities. Free medicines were provided to the ailing patients. The medical team also visited the house of elderly people who were too weak to attend the medical camp. Basic knowledge of epidemic diseases including precautions was also imparted. A specially constituted team under Assam Rifles medical officer examined 92 people (33 male, 23 female and 36 children).
