Various battalions of Assam Rifles conducted civic action programmes across Nagaland for the welfare of the public during the month of July.
Kiphire Battalion: Kiphire Battalion carried out tree plantation drive on July 12, in a bid to promote clean environment for future. According to PRO HQ IGAR (N) the plantation drive was meticulously organised wherein a total of 795 saplings were planted in Kiphire, Pungro, Akhegwo, Longmatre, Mimi and Thongsonyu. Kiphire Battalion also restored free flow of traffic on Pungro to Longmatre road, which was an important route for residents of nearby villages travelling to and fro. The traffic on the road was disrupted due to landslide which occurred on the night of July 14, due to heavy rainfall.
Phek Battalion: Phek Battalion, conducted tree plantation drive under the theme “Celebrate biodiversity” on July 12, where a total of 880 saplings of various varieties were planted. All soldiers along with their families participated. To ensure survivability of the trees, ownership of the plants has being entrusted to the individuals who planted them.
Shamator Battalion: Shamator Battalion conducted a plantation drive at Shamator, Noklak, Dan/Pangsha, Wensoi, Langnyok and Choklangan and in all its posts on July 12. Tree saplings, to include fruit bearing trees were planted keeping in view the climate and soil conditions. A total 1850 trees were planted and a pledge taken to preserve maintain and uphold bio-diversity.
Tuensang Battalion: Tuensang Battalion (North) conducted a medical camp at Shamnyu (Wangshu) village on July 11. Besides, medical consultation and distribution of free medicines, the importance of timely vaccination, personal hygiene and sanitation was also imparted. A total of 75 males, 108 females and 93 children benefitted from the camp.
5 Sector Assam Rifles: In conjunction with the tree plantation campaign, a concerted plantation drive was undertaken by HQ 5 Sector Assam Rifles and affiliated units under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) in the districts of Kohima, Chieswema, Phek, Kihpire and Wokha on July 12. A total of 8050 saplings of various varieties were planted in these locations in an effort to enhance the green cover of the planet. Jawans and their families participated whole heartedly and to ensure longevity of these plants, ownership has been entrusted to respective individuals who have planted them.
Zunheboto Battalion: Zunheboto Battalion conducted a two-day free medical camp at Meyiolong and surrounding villages of Mokokchung district. According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), a combined medical team of Assam Rifles along with Community Health Centre provided medical consultation to 185 residents and basic treatment to the ailing. Free medicines were also distributed on the occasion. Apart from the camp, interaction on women healthcare and awareness on how to build immunity against COVID-19 was also carried out.
Jalukie Battalion: Jalukie Battalion conducted an interactive session with children and staff of Zeme Women Organisation Children’s Home, Peren on July 15. Basic medical consultation and treatment was also carried out where free medicines, face mask and hand sanitiser was provided. A total of eight children along with four staff members attended the interactive session. Jalukie Battalion provided medical assistance to a resident of Peren on July 14. A staff from Zeme Women’s Organisation Children Home, Peren approached the Assam Rifles having sustained injury to his leg. Accordingly, medical care was administered and free medicines were given. The individual was also advised for a regular visit to the COB until the wound heals. Also commemorating the birth anniversary of Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), Jalukie Battalion organised medical camp at Punglwa ‘B’ Village on July 15. A combined medical team of PHC Punglwa and Assam Rifles provided medical consultation to 40 males, 25 females and 11 children. Vaccination was also administered to children and aged residents during the camp.
Mon Battalion medical camp: Mon battalion organised medical camp at Shinga Chingnyu village of Mon district on July 16. According to PRO, HQ IGAR (North), Assam Rifles provided medical consultation to 221 residents and basic treatment the ailing. Medicines were also distributed on the occasion. Apart from the camp, interaction on women healthcare and awareness about how to build immunity against COVID-19 was also carried out.
