DIMAPUR, AUG 22 (NPN): In continuation of its motto “Friends of the North East People,” Assam Rifles organised a series of community outreach initiatives across Nagaland, focusing on healthcare, welfare and security coordination.
At Sangphur Village, Shamator district, a free medical camp was conducted on August 21 as part of its ongoing community healthcare initiatives to provide accessible medical services in remote and underserved areas.
The camp witnessed active participation from villagers and elders. Military dental officers conducted comprehensive oral health check‑ups, consultations, tooth extractions and preventive screenings. Awareness sessions were also held for schoolchildren and elders on oral hygiene, healthy dietary habits and early identification of dental problems, emphasising the importance of timely medical consultation to prevent complications.
As part of the initiative, dental care kits, toothbrushes, toothpaste and prescribed medicines were distributed free of cost. The camp received encouraging response from the local community and provided an opportunity for meaningful interaction between Assam Rifles personnel and villagers.
At Lilen Village, Athibung, Peren District, a medical camp was conducted where 88 villagers including men, women and children received free check ups, treatment, medicines and guidance on hygiene and preventive care. The initiative fostered closer ties between security personnel and villagers, with residents expressing gratitude for the support.
In Chakhabama, Assam Rifles held a Security Coordination Meeting with Gaon Burahs and Village Chairmen from surrounding villages. The meeting, attended by 45 representatives, discussed local security issues, community participation, monsoon preparedness and emergency response mechanisms. The interaction reaffirmed collective commitment towards peace, security and resilience.
At Langnyok Village on August 18, a Free Medicine Distribution and Primary Health Check up Camp was organised in collaboration with Primary Health Centre Langnyok Hospital. The camp provided medicines, consultations and sensitisation on hygiene and preventive healthcare, receiving encouraging response from the local community.
Similarly, at Tsupfume Village, a medical camp was conducted by the Pfutsero Assam Rifles post, benefiting 62 villagers including women, children and elderly persons. The team carried out health screenings, distributed medicines and educated villagers on sanitation, nutrition and first aid. Patients requiring further treatment were referred to civil hospitals.
At John Yasong Memorial School, Phelungre, on August 18, the troops conducted plantation drive reaffirming its commitment to promoting environmental awareness, patriotism and community engagement among youth.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of 78 students and five staff members, along with two JCOs and 22 Other Ranks of Assam Rifles. The drive aimed to encourage students to contribute towards environmental conservation and develop a sense of responsibility for a greener and sustainable future.
Students actively took part in planting activities and learned the importance of protecting nature.
Through regular medical camps, security meetings and outreach activities, the Force continues to build trust, goodwill and lasting partnerships with the local population.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles extended support to the District Level Drug Free Campaign organised by Akehda Amulung, Kiphire, under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at Agape Higher Secondary School, Kiphire, on August 23.
The campaign aimed to create awareness among students on the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage them to make healthy, responsible and positive choices. Around 180 students participated enthusiastically in the programme.
Eight drug related competitions were conducted to creatively engage students and spread awareness against substance abuse. Assam Rifles facilitated the smooth conduct of the events by providing essential requirements. An informative audio visual presentation was also delivered, highlighting the destructive impact of drugs on individuals, families and society, while emphasising the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Participation certificates were distributed to students, encouraging them to continue spreading awareness and contribute towards building a drug free society. The initiative provided an effective platform for youth engagement and community awareness, further strengthening the partnership between Assam Rifles and the local community.
