Assam Rifles undertook a string of impactful programmes across Nagaland, aimed at empowering youth, fostering community participation, and commemorating national pride.
In Kiphire district, a skill development session was organised on July 25, bringing together local villagers, youth, civil society representatives, and Assam Rifles personnel. The session focused on economic empowerment and self-reliance, with resource persons briefing attendees on central schemes like PMKVY, NSDC, and various state-specific initiatives. Emphasis was placed on employment opportunities in handicrafts, agriculture, IT, tailoring, weaving and carpentry. Participants were encouraged to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, with locals expressing interest in future training initiatives.
On July 26, Assam Rifles extended its outreach to Christian Mission High School, Phek, conducting a self-defence training session under the Fit India Movement. 42 students took part in the exercise, learning essential techniques to build confidence and promote physical fitness.
Continuing the momentum, the force hosted a spirited “Cycle Campaign: Sunday on Cycle” on July 27 in Dimapur. Aligned with the Khelo India Scheme’s Fit India initiative, the campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from 35 cyclists including students, sportspersons, Assam Rifles personnel and local youth. The ride promoted fitness and unity across the city. Support arrangements such as hydration points, medical teams, and support vehicles ensured safety throughout the route. Cyclists were presented with certificates and medals in recognition of their efforts. The event underscored the wider message of “Khelo India – Sports for Peace and Development”, reinforcing the value of an active lifestyle and sportsmanship among citizens.
Meanwhile, at Khonsa, Assam Rifles commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas with an emotionally resonant event, “A Day with Company Commander” on July 27. Over 150 students from various institutions participated in the gathering that honoured the sacrifices of the 1999 Kargil war heroes. The programme featured a career counselling session on opportunities within the Armed Forces, an interactive quiz competition, and a display of military equipment. Students were captivated by energetic cultural performances, including patriotic skits and folk dances, along with an air gun shooting activity that added vibrancy to the event.
The programme’s highlight included stirring melodies by the Pipe Band and an enthralling demonstration by the Assam Rifles Dog Squad. The community of Khonsa responded positively to the initiative, appreciating its fusion of remembrance, motivation and outreach.
