Assam Rifles apprehended two active NSCN (I-M) cadres, Imkongtiba and Phamching, both “self-styled sergeant major”, from general area New Camp, Mokokchung District, Nagaland on April 14 and recovered two weapons and live ammunition.
In a press release, PRO (Defence) said basing on confirmed input regarding movement of active cadres of NSCN (I-M) astride Mokokchung – Mariani Road, “threatening local civilians and carrying out extortion activities”, an operation was launched mobile vehicle check post was established to apprehend the cadres.
PRO said the team intercepted a Maruti Alto (AS 01 X 6465) and on being “challenged”, the occupants fled but were surrounded and apprehended.
The apprehended cadres along with recovered “war like stores” have been handed over to Mokokchung Police Station-I, Mokokchung District for further investigations, informed PRO.
