Assam Rifles tribute to Naga Kargil war heroes

HQ IGAR North celebrated the 20th anniversary of victory of Kargil War by organising a solemn ceremony on August 3 to commemorate the sacrifice of all martyrs who had laid down their lives during Kargil War in 1999.

Late Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse and Subedar Imliakum Ao fought during Kargil War and attained the Mahavir Chakra (MVC), the second highest military decoration in India. A function was organized at the Memorial of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse at Phezha, Nerhema village, about 15 kms north of Kohima.
Major General P C Nair, YSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) speaking on the occasion said the Kargil Vijay Diwas was to pay homage to the Kargil war heroes. In this war, a total of 527 soldiers of Indian Army sacrificed their lives and Captain Kenguruse was one among them, he said.
Nair spoke of Late Captain N Kenguruse, MVC and Sub Imliakung Ao, MVC as a source of motivation and inspiration to all ranks of the Armed forces and the youths. In this regard, the officer hoped the students  will get inspired for what the soldiers have done for the country and exhorted the students to take inspiration from it.
Father of the martyr, Neisielie Kenguruse expressed his profound gratitude to the Assam Rifles and the people for the good gesture for remembering his son. He also appreciated the defense ministry for keeping his son’s name alive and appreciated the AR for maintaining the memorial site .
Subedar Imliakung Ao, MVC of Second Batallion of NAGA Regiment speaking on the occasion spoke on the occasion asked the parents to let the children join the army and work for the betterment of the country. 
Family members of Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurusue, MVC alongwith ex-servicemen and school children paid homage at his memorial at Pheza. A solemn wreath laying ceremony was also carried at the Battalion war memorial in honor of the martyr by IGAR (North) and Neiselie Kenguruse, father of Late Capt N Kenguruse, MVC and other officials.
It may be mentioned Capt Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC of Nerhema village attained martyrdom during Kargil War on 28 Jun 1999 while destroying enemy bunker and killing four enemy soldiers.
While Subedar Imliakung Ao, MVC of Second Batallion of NAGA Regiment was volunteered to undertake a daring mission for capturing the enemy mortar position and ammunition dumn, an impossible mission successfully completed without a single casualty of own troops.
