Assam Rifles has undertaken a series of welfare and awareness programmes aimed at empowering its troops and strengthening ties with local communities across Nagaland.
According to a press release, the force successfully conducted a five day Awareness and Scientific Beekeeping Cadre at Dimapur, with 147 troops from various units participating. The training was facilitated by expert instructors from the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission, who provided detailed insights into modern beekeeping practices including colony management, identification of species, maintenance of bee boxes, honey extraction, disease control and the economic potential of beekeeping. Practical demonstrations were also held to equip troops with skills to promote beekeeping among villagers near their deployment areas, thereby encouraging sustainable livelihood opportunities. The initiative was described as part of Assam Rifles’ commitment to its motto as “Sentinels of the North East and Friends of the North East People.”
On March 14, a lecture on financial awareness was organised at the Motivational Hall, Kohima Garrison, for troops and their families. Delivered by a representative from HDFC Bank, the session covered financial planning, savings, investment awareness, digital banking facilities and measures to prevent online fraud. Participants were encouraged to adopt disciplined savings and secure banking practices. The interactive session was well received and appreciated by attendees, with Assam Rifles reiterating its focus on welfare efforts to empower troops and families with essential knowledge on financial management and digital safety.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles Phek Battalion organised a civic outreach programme at Matikhru village in Meluri district under Operation Sadbhavana. The initiative included distribution of solar lights to households and a basic health screening camp. Villagers, including elders, women and youth, actively participated in the programme. The medical team provided necessary medicines, advice on preventive healthcare and awareness on hygiene practices. Villagers expressed gratitude for the support, which they said would ease daily challenges and improve well being.
