In commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), mega identification and assessment camps for children with disabilities (CwDs) were conducted in Wokha and Tuensang districts on August 26.
In Wokha, the Education Mission Society Samagra Shiksha organized the camp at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital. Led by Medical Superintendent Dr. N. Mhonchan Kithan and supported by seven medical officers from various departments, the initiative aimed to assess children with special needs and facilitate access to government welfare schemes.
District Inclusive Education (IE) Coordinator T. Ezanthung Lotha informed that students were thoroughly examined by government doctors, who certified the extent of their disabilities. Based on the assessments, disability certificates were issued to eligible beneficiaries. Over 100 children, including those from government schools and home-based education setups, benefitted from the camp. Participants received free medical check-ups, incentives, and other essential services.
In Tuensang, a similar camp was organized by the Department of School Education and Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS), in convergence with the RBSK team. Held at District Hospital Tuensang, the camp registered 25 children with disabilities, including cases of cleft lip and palate (5), otitis media (3), club foot (1), vision impairment (1), and hearing impairment (1).
The medical team comprised doctors and nurses from the district hospital, a medical officer from RBSK, and two ANMs from UPHC Tuensang.
Both camps reflected the ongoing commitment to inclusive education and health equity under NEP 2020, ensuring that children with disabilities are identified, supported, and empowered through coordinated efforts.
