ASU raises concern over sinking stretch of NH-2

DIMAPUR

Angami Students’ Union (ASP) has expressed concern over sinking of NH-2 stretch near Phesama and urged the government to take immediate measures to restore normalcy.
In a representation to the deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima, ASU president Diezevisie Nakhro and vice president Zhovito Rikha stated that the current state of affected stretch posed not only a severe threat to the lives of commuters but also reflected a larger lapse in accountability and quality control.
ASU also pointed out that a significant number of schools and college students have been severely impacted by the ongoing disruption. It said that many students continue to pursue their academic responsibilities under extremely challenging circumstances, with exams and daily classes being hampered. “The effects of this calamity also extend to both intra-and inter-state travel affecting livelihoods, essential services, and general mobility,” the union stated.
ASU has, therefore, urged the responsible authority to expedite the restoration of the affected highway segment with the stringiest monitoring of quality and timeline. It sought a safe and viable alternate route for uninterrupted movements. Further, the union appealed the authority to facilitate transportation support for the students and daily commuters during disruption. It also sought financial and logistics assistance to affected communities, especially students and transport workers.
Besides, ASU urge the authority to initiate long-term preventive measures and an audit of existing infrastructure under NHIDCL in the region.
ASU assured to extend unwavering support and cooperation in all efforts aimed at restoring normalcy and safeguarding the wellbeing of the people.
