Angami Students’ Union urges govt to strengthen entry points

DIMAPUR, JUL 31 (NPN)

Drawing attention to the growing concern following recent eviction drive in Assam, the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has strongly urged the state government to be “more proactive and responsible” by strengthening its vigilance at all entry points.
ASU also called upon the responsible departments to deploy adequate police forces and enforcement personnel to monitor and regulate cross-border movement effectively.
In a public advisory, ASU president Diezevisie Nakhro and general secretary Rajuselie Chücha called upon all village authorities, student bodies, and youth organizations under Angami jurisdiction for heightened vigilance at the grassroots level. All unions and local bodies have been requested to play a proactive role in ensuring that there was no infiltration of undocumented persons within their respective localities.
ASU also advised all vehicles operating within and across the jurisdiction to ensure their documents and passenger details were in proper order. Transport operators have been asked to refrain from ferrying individuals without valid identification and necessary travel documents.
To house owners, renters, and landlords, the union said it was their responsibility to verify and confirm the legal status of their tenants and their surety process. It warned that renting or sheltering undocumented individuals would not be condoned.
Further, ASU has appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or movement. ASU cautioned that any individual or entity found to be aiding, sheltering, or facilitating the movement of illegal immigrants within its jurisdiction would be dealt with sternly.
