At least 22 killed in landslide in capital of Guinea

Conakry (Guinea), Aug 23 (AP): A mountainous heap of refuse collapsed at Dar Es Salam, the largest landfill in Guinea’s capital Conakry, early Sunday, killing at least 22 people, according to a provisional toll by the country’s civil protection service. Heavy rains, which started around 3 am washed over the refuse, triggering a landslide that buried nearby shacks. The site was designated for closure on Sunday, according to Lt. Col. Bailo, the sanitation officer for the Military Engineering Battalion.
