ATMA blocks mobilise FSGs; inaugurate farm schools

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) blocks have mobilised Food Security Groups (FSGs) and opened integrated farm schools and conducted demonstration across the state.


Niuland: ATMA Niuland Block on January 30 conducted mobilization of farm women’s FSG namely “Achiku FSG”, comprising of 12 women members from different households.


The block said the FSG was formed mainly to concentrate on women farmers and also to encourage them in backyard kitchen farming activities. During the programme Block Technology Manager (BTM), Demalu Hasnusa highlighted on the concept of FSG and encouraged them to set an example and impart knowledge to other women farmers as well.


Tsaru: ATM Tsaru block, Tuensang inaugurated an integrated farm school on January 24 at Chungliyimti Village with Chichemba Sangtam as farm teacher and 10 other progressive farmers as farm students.
In a programme, Block Technology Manager (BTM) Dr. T. Arenmongla briefly explained the concept of farm school to the farmers present and demonstrated the preparation of nursery bed for rabi crops.


ATMA Tsaru block also mobilised FSG namely “Throzi” with 10 members from Chungliyimti village. Another SHG was also mobilized with the nomenclature “Aketha” from Kiding village.


Chunlikha: ATMA Chunlikha block inaugurated ATMA Banana Farm School was inaugurated at K. Station, Chunlikha block, Tseminyu on February 1 by resource person District Agriculture Officer, Ruovilhou Tseibu Rulho.


Resource person explained the concept of farm school and how it can benefit the progressive and marginal farmers by performing as a platform for sharing scientific and indigenous technical knowledge. The farmers were briefed about the nutritional importance of banana and its demand in both domestic and international market.


The farmers were encouraged to follow organic farming and hands-on demonstration was conducted on package of practices of organic banana by the ATMA staffs. Farmers were distributed with tricoderma, neem seed cake and poly sheets for covering banana bunch. Altogether, 21 farmers attended the programme.


Sangsangnyu: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Sangsangnyu block, Tuensang, inaugurated Farm School on Potato, conducted demonstration and mobilization of Food Security Group (FSG), on January 25, at Ngangpong village.


The concept of the farm school and role of Farm School teacher was explained to farmers by BTM Muziselu Ringa. N Longkhagba, a progressive farmer, was appointed as the Farm School teacher, who also shared his successful stories and experiences on potato cultivation and demonstrated some potato cultivation practices he follows on his field to the farmers.


Food Security Group, under the nomenclature “SHAAN FSG”, was mobilized and seed money was given through Direct Benefit Transfer.
Altogether, 19 farmers and ATMA functionaries attended the programme.
