Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) conducted various trainings, demonstrations, and mobilisation programmes across various blocks in the month of May.
Ralan block
ATMA Ralan block under Wokha district conducted various activities from May 21 to May 23 at New Chandalashung village and Woroku village. The block inaugurated an ‘Orange Farm School’ at New Chandalashung village and appointed Ekyimo Odyuo as farm school teacher.
At the programme, Agriculture Officer, BTT Convener, Longshithung Lotha briefed farmers on the impact of global warming on agriculture.
In both the villages, resource persons, BTM Chophabeni Kikon conducted demonstration on “Application of bio-fertilisers on field crops”, ATM Soyingbeni Tsanglao on “Application and uses of Trichoderma” and ATM Nchumthung Shitirie on “Preparation of bordeaux paste/mixture”.
The block also mobilised two new farmers group namely Mhonka SHG and Chanka SHG from New Chandalashung Village.
Nuiland block
ATMA Dimapur, Niuland Block conducted demonstration on “Nursery raising in millet crop” on May 25 at S. Hetoyi Village with ACTO (KVK-ICAR) Jharnapani, Dr. Roben Singh as resource person.
Demonstration was conducted for millet farmers who usually practiced direct broadcasting at their jhum fields to see the difference in performance between transplanting and sowing. Resource person also cited that both the nursery bed raising and transplanting were to be conducted under the concept of natural farming. Niuland block also conducted mobilisation of farmers group on May 25 at Yeveto Village with ACTO, KVK-ICAR, Jharnapani, Dr. Roben Singh as resource person. Resource person conducted step-by-step hands on training and emphasised on the importance of vermin-composting and its commercial value.
Kikruma block
ATMA Phek, Kikruma block organised demonstration on “Intercropping of maize with soybean, cultivation practices of seasonal vegetables” on May 20 at Thipuzu village with BTM Keduweteu Lomi, ATM Sedekuonuo Kelio, and ATM Kewe Rhakho as resource persons.
At the programme, ATM Nusakho conducted demonstration on “Importance of bio-control agents and micro-nutrients and its soil application, management of fall army worm (FAW) with Neem oil”.
Satoi block
ATMA Satoi block under Zunheboto district carried out mobilisation of groups on May 23-24 at Itovi and Ghokhuvi villages respectively. The block also conducted demonstration on “Rearing of eri-silkworm” for three Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Itovi Village and one SHG of Ghokhuvi village.
During the demonstration programme, BTM Hutoka Y. Jakha stressed on importance of raising nursery for castor before start of plantation of the same, and seri-field assistant (SFA) Zunheboto, Kivika Sumi described in detail the different stages of eri-silkworm rearing and the different protocols to be followed during each stage of the cycle.
Cost benefit and economics of rearing silkworm was presented by ATM Satoi block, Kakiho H.
Chunlikha block
ATMA Tseminyu, Chunlikha block conducted demonstration on “Transplanting and seedling treatment of king chilli using Trichoderma” on May 17, 18, and 23 at Kandinu village, K. Station village, and Tsonsa village respectively.
Farmers were demonstrated on ‘scientific cultivation of king chilli’ and ‘use of trichoderma in treating the seedlings’ and also explained the importance of trichoderma.
Also, proper methods such as pit size, spacing, manuring, mulching, etc. and benefits of trichoderma were explained to farmers.
Later, king chilli seedlings and trichodermaviridie were distributed to farmers.
Further, Chunlikha block in collaboration with KVK Tesophenyu also organised mobilisation of farmers group on ‘cultivation practices of pearl millet’ on May 18 at Chunlikha Community Hall, Tseminyu.
Resource person, subject matter specialist in genetics and plant breeding, KVK Dr. Martina highlighted the importance of millets in diet and its nutritional benefits as compared to other cereal crops.
