Agricultural Technology Management Agency has been conducting a series of activities across the state to benefit farmers across the state.
ATMA Tseminyu block: ATMA Tseminyu block conducted demonstration on pig housing management at Piggery Farm School Tseminyu town with farm school teacher and proprietor, Hisinlo Tep.
A press release from BTM Tseminyu block, Vibeilie Joseph Keretsu stated that farmers were shown practical demonstrations at the farm. Many related issues in pig farming were discussed with the farmer participants by the farm school teacher. Technical boost and support were supplemented by BTM Tseminyu block, Dr. Vibeilie Joseph Keretsu and VAS Tseminyu, Dr. Gwezenlo Tep. 18 farmers from nearby villages attended the programme.
ATMA Satakha block: ATMA Satakha block, Zunheboto conducted a demonstration on nursery bed preparation on king chilly, okra and cultivation of cucumber on April 17 and 18 at Kivikhu and Vishepu villages respectively.
A press release by ATMA stated that the resource persons for the demonstration were ATM, Lily Tungoe and ATM, Wanshom Konyak. Method demonstrations were also given on good seed bed preparation, optimum spacing, sowing time, weed management, selection of good variety seeds and application of certain pesticides for plant protection. During the training, a new Food Security Group (FSG) was identified with the group name Nipulou SHG with 10 members. Altogether 30 farmers and one SHG participated in the programme along with the officials and ATMA functionaries.
ATMA Mangkolemba block: ATMA Mangkolemba block, Mokokchung conducted training, demonstration, field day and mobilization of farmers from April 17-19 at Dibuia, Mongchen and Khar villages.
A press release by ATMA Mangkolemba block, stated that the training and demonstration was conducted on the cultivation of maize and chilli.
Resource person, ATM, Rongsenrenla, trained the farmers under the topic intercultural operation and cultivation technique of maize and different cultural aspects of chilli while resource person, ATM, Amenla Jamir conducted a demonstration for the farmers.
On the field day, ATM, Alemnungla discussed management practices of cardamom and coffee plantation.
ATMA Mangkolemba block also organised mobilization of two Self Help Groups (SHGs) wherein “seed money” was provided to them. BTM, Limawapangla, encouraged the SHGs to use the “seed money” judiciously in furthering their work activities. The programme was chaired by BTM, Limawapangla.

A field day on cardamom and coffee plantation was also conducted at Khar village on April 18, wherein ATM, Alemnungla discussed the management practices of cardamom and coffee plantation. Another programme was taken on mobilization of two SHGs. Seed money was also provided to “Sungtakba” SHGs group wherein BTM, Limawapangla encouraged them to use the seed money judiciously in furthering their work activities. The programme was chaired by BTM, Limawapangla.
ATMA Chuchuyimlang block: ATMA Mokokchung, Chuchuyimlang block conducted a demonstration and field day programme on April 18 at Chakpa village.
A press release from ATMA Chuchuyimlang block stated that resource person ATM, Chubaienla demonstrated the cultivation of field crops and conducted a field day on production technology of rice bean, wherein she highlighted climate and soil, field preparation, spacing and the correct time for proper intercultural practices for higher yields and proper field maintenance.
A separate programme on mobilization of FIGs, CIGs and SHGs was also conducted wherein ATM, Lipoktila apprised the participants on concepts, activities and importance of group formation. She also encouraged the group, to work together to achieve a common goal. Seed money was given to Molungtok FSG group by ATMA for financing their initial start up. The programme was chaired by ATM, Lipoktila. Altogether 14 participants attended the programme. Various seeds like maize, soybean, French bean and rice bean were distributed among the attendees.
ATMA Tizit Block: ATMA, Tizit Block, Mon conducted a two-day training for farmers of Tizit Block at Lapa Village, with Block Technology Manger (BTM), K Mhonchumo and Assistant Technology Manager (ATM), Lensanok Tzudir, Mon as the resource persons.
The programme started with a short inaugural session chaired by Yengmao Konyak, Farmer’s Friend, Tizit Block, who also said the invocation. In the technical session Mhonchumo discussed the need for use of organic pesticides for control of pests and diseases in solanaceous crops. Solanaceous crops which includes everyday fruits and vegetables like tomatos, potato eggplant, pepper, which are the queens of every kitchen, and therefore the use of inorganic pesticides could create bioaccumulation of hazardous chemicals in the long run. And thus the use of organic fertilizers and pesticides needs to be encouraged.
In another session on April 19, resource person Lensanok spoke on the importance of nursery bed preparation and management of crops at tender stages, which could lead to a good yield and a better table food item. He also called on the farmers to stop using salt in their fields to conserve the top soil. According to the resource persons, solanaceous crops can be a very good medium of income and uplift their socio-economic status.
