Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) conducted various activities for farmers in the month of March and April 2018.
ATMA Longleng: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Longleng organised a district level trainings on preparation of detergent powder and liquid dish washer from March 29-30 at the training hall of the district sericulture officer’s offices and PD ATMA, Longleng.
A press release from ATMA Longleng stated that the training was held with the objective of gathering the home needs of the women in agriculture as well as to improve the livelihood of the farming families and women farmer groups belonging to Longleng district.
The training was conducted for women groups from seven villages covering the three blocks under Longleng district viz. Longleng, Tamlu and Sakshi. Altogether 35 participants attended the training.
ATMA Peren farmers’ exposure tour: Farmers of Peren district went on an interstate farmers exposure tour to Jorhat from April 2 to 6. During the tour the farmers visited progressive farmer’s field and Assam Agriculture University (AAU) research plot where the farm technical staff demonstrated for the farmers, Air layering of litchi, Assam lemon, and Guava.
The scientist from AICRP on vegetables highlighted tomato seed extractions and also explained nursery preparation and cultivation of chilli, carrot, brinjal, etc.
Farmers were also trained on cultivation on bell pepper, nursery raising and ornamental plants cultivation of king chilly. Mango tree banding with polythene, coconut plantation and multi storeyed, integrated farming were also shown to the farmers. They also learnt about hybrid papaya cultivation and its economics from the Farm Technical staff.
The farmers also visited the livestock farm where turkey, vanaraja, layers, piggery, rabbit, buffalo and duckery were being successfully maintained. The farmers were also taken to a tea garden and processing unit and off season field crops farms. The touring team was led by two deputy project directors.
ATMA Bhandari block: ATMA Bhandari block conducted various activities for farmers of Bhandari block, sponsored by ATMA Wokha during February and March 2018. On February 2, ATMA Bhandari block organised a mobilization programme for SHGs at the office of SDO (Sc), Bhandari, wherein resource person Chumbeni Odyuo delivered a talk on the concept and importance of SHGs. ATMA Bhandari also conducted a Field Day on Banana Cultivation at Bhandari town on March 26, wherein field owner P. Humtsoe, as the resource person, gave practical demonstrations to ten farmers. Further on March 27, a training & demonstration was conducted at SDO (Sc) office, Bhandari, on tomato cultivation with ATM Bhandari block, Tracy Mozhui as the resource person. A demonstration on using chillies and garlic as insect pest repellent was shown by Thungchobeni Kikon ATM Bhandari. A training on nursery raising was conducted by Chumbeni Odyuo, SDO-cum-BTT convener, ATMA Bhandari block. Altogether 11 farmers attended the programme.
ATMA Sechü-Zubza block: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Sechü-Zubza block conducted a training on Tree Tomato Management at Kiruphema village on March 27, with ATM Keviravono Visa as the resource person.
During the training, the resource person explained site selection, importance of seasons and plant spacing. She also gave detailed explanations on the identification of pests and diseases and the ways to tackle them without the use of hazardous chemical pesticides.
The programme was followed by an interactive session among the participants. Altogether 18 farmer’s friends including the functionaries attended the programme.
ATMA Tuensang, Noksen block: ATMA Tuensang, Noksen Block organized a training, demonstration and mobilization of farmer groups from March 27 to 29, at Noksen HQ with ATM Selila and ATM Limasunep as resource persons.
The programme included a resource persons and farmers interaction. The participates were trained on various subjects covering packages of practices of banana in foothills and maize, air layering technique, farm hygiene for vegetable crops and post-harvest management of kidney beans.
During the training programme, a new Farmers Interest Group (FIG) under the nomenclature “Thangjam Fig” was formed with 10 members.
Altogether 16 farmers and one SHG participated in the programme which was followed by an interactive session.
ATMA Tsg Shamator block: ATMA Tuensang, Shamator block conducted a training and demonstration drive for farmers at Shamator and Sangphur village, on March 23 and 24, with resource persons ATMs Ketholezo Kipu, Kezhalesie and Lanrhonthung Ezung.
The farmers were trained on vermin-composting, preparation of detergents and dish washer, cultivation practices of ginger, neem seed kernel extract and organic methods of pest and disease management. They were also shown practical demonstrations of these methods.
A new FIG (Farmers Interest Group) known as THULUN group comprising of 12 members was also formed in Sangphur village.
Altogether 32 farmers attended the program. Detergent and dish-washers were given to the farmers after the program.
ATMA Kiphire block: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kiphire block, on March 26, conducted a training-cum-demonstration on the cultivation of large cardamom, at Philongku village. Resource person, C.T Setsiba trained participants on climate and soil requirement, site selection, land preparation and intercultural operations.
He also demonstrated the process of mulching, weeding, threshing and shade regulations. Altogether, 14 farmers attended the programme. The programme was chaired by BTM Kiphire block, Kekosenuo Solo.
