
Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Dimapur had organized “within district farmers training” under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) on Thursday at ATMA training centre, Dimapur.
In the programme, resource person, SDO, Kohima, department of soil & water conservation, Takomar speaking on “water management practices” in technical session-I stressed on river linking, erosion and deposition of soil and water management practices.
He also gave a power point presentation about the activities done by the department on farm ponds, spurs, drainage line treatment, loose boulder check dams, retaining wall (SBEC) and impounding ponds.
Speaking on “low cost water structure” in technical session-I resource person, KVK, Jharnapani, Imliakum explained on methods for making jalkund and utilization of water. He said that site of jalkund could be selected at high reaches of crop catchment areas so that water could be recycled through gravitational force without using any extra energy.
He mentioned that capacity would depend on the water requirement for crop/animal, jalkund would retain about 15, 000, 20, 000 and 30, 000 litres of water respectively with the dimensions of 5mx3mx1m, 5mx4mx1m and 5mx4mx1.5m and the size of lining material of the corresponding dimension would be 8mx6m, 8mXm and 9mx8m.
He also said that direct precipitation of the rain was allowed for water harvesting, run-off water should be avoided but the roof top water could be harvested and diverted to jalkund.
He stressed on preparation of jalkund, laying of LDPE polyfilm/silpauline, covering of the jalkund, fencing and utilization of harvested water.
In technical session-II, live demonstration on farm machineries, importance of micro irrigation was demonstrated by Ranjit Singhvi, agri-tech, 4th mile.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DSCO & AMC member (ATMA), Hovuto Zhimomi while keynote address was delivered by DAO & PD (ATMA), K.Remphamo Kikon. Vote of thanks was proposed by deputy PD, ATMA, Tonikali followed by interaction of farmers with the resource persons.
