Group of progressive farmers along with Officials from Phek and Dimapur District visited Sikkim for exposure-cum-study tour from May 24-29. The tour was sponsored by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Phek and Dimapur in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Sikkim.
The team was led by dy. P.D- ATMA Phek, Dr. Keviu Shuya, dy. P.D- ATMA Dimapur Janet Chishi, dy. P.D- ATMA Dimapur, Tonikali and ATM-Phek, Kalvin.
The team visited the field of Amber Bahadur Chettri, a progressive farmer of East Sikkim where the farmers learned about nursery raising for the crops like cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. Chettri also shared his experiences in cherry pepper cultivation/propagation and its value in the local market.
The team also visited the ATMA-East Farm School on Integrated Farming at Kameray Duga. Farm School teacher C. P. Bhattarai, gave demonstration on preparation of various bio fertilizers and farm yard manures. Speaking on the importance of azolla in organic farming and usage of vermi wash, he educated the farmers about the application of various composts and insect repellents in the field.
The team also interacted with the farmers and ATMA officials at Kameray.
