Nagaland: ATMA holds demonstrations and trainings for farmers

Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has been conducting demonstrations and training progamme on farming activities for the famers across the state to improve agricultural productivity.


ATMA Wokha: ATMA Wokha block conducted two-day training and demonstration programme on August 27 and 29, respectively at Orange farm school.
The programme included demonstrations on Bordeaux mixture, line sowing of peas, training on natural farming, and demonstrations on detergents and dishwashing.


The concept of farm school was imparted by ATM Eyingbeni, and demonstration by ATM Elilo Kikon. Meanwhile, soap making was demonstrated by BTM Yanthungo Ngullie.
Participants received lemon saplings, pea and coriander seedlings, paint brushes, and rubber gloves during the training programme.


ATMA Phek: ATMA Phek, Weziho block conducted demonstration and interactive program for farmers on August 29 at Hutsü village.

The session covered seedbed preparation of vegetable crops, grafting methods for fruit trees, and the use of weeders in farming. The demonstrations were led by resource persons ATM Nuzo and BTM Vepoto.


A total of 18 farmers along with ATMA officials attended the program, after which vegetable seeds and weeders were distributed to the farmers.

ATMA Sechü-Zubza: ATMA Sechü-Zubza block organized a field demonstration on the topic “Package of Practices of French beans, Onion and Sweet corn” August 13 at Dzüdza village.


Resource person ATM Thejavizonuo Kelio highlighted the importance of irrigation, weed control, and pest management, and hand on demonstration on site selection, preparation of site, and row maintenance to the participants.


The program was attended by eight members from SEDE FSG and ATMA functionaries of the block, also included the distribution of seeds for various crops including French beans Onion, Sweet corn, Bottle gourd F1, Brinjal, Bitter gourd F1, Chilli and watermelon F1.


Another demonstration programme was conducted on topics “Crop residue management and field sanitation” and “Promotion of winter vegetables and their cultivation for livelihood security.” On August 29 at Jotsoma village.


Resource persons ATM Ketsivino Nakhro and ATM Thejavizonuo Kelio highlighted the significance of managing crop residues to boost soil fertility and health. They stressed that proper crop residue management, combined with effective field sanitation, can greatly improve soil quality and control pests.


The resource person highlighted various rabi season crop, noting their significant impact on rural income and wellbeing. Discussions covered sowing practices for cole crops, root crops, and pod vegetables, with hands-on demonstrations involving farmers and functionaries.


Altogether, seven farmers from “KROVI FIG” along with ATMA functionaries attended the programme. Hand hoes, green pea, cabbage, and beetroot were distributed.

ATMA Peren: ATMA Peren, Ahthibung block conducted demonstration on application of Trichoderma viride, preparation of neem seed kernels extraction and demonstration on vermicompost bed preparation on August 26, at Old Chalkot village with Lireni Lotha, ATM, Ahthibung block as resource person.


A brief introduction on the uses, purpose and benefits of Trichoderma viride, the benefit of Neem as an organic pesticide and importance of vermicomposting, requirements of raw materials, role of earthworm, methods of vermicomposting, handling and harvesting of vermicomposting was highlighted by the resource person.

Hands on demonstration on application of Trichoderma, preparation of neem seed kernel extract and step by step demonstration on vermicompost preparation were also conducted by the resource person along with the farmers.


The program was chaired by Lhaihoichong Singson, BTM and Live red wiggler earthworms and trichoderma were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 10 farmers attended the demonstration program.
