ATMA Longmatra block conducted demonstration on the topic ‘’Value addition of sugarcane (Jaggery making)’’ and ‘’Oyster mushroom cultivation’’ on January 28 at Sangtsoze village, Kiphire.
Resource person Chothrongli, a progressive sugarcane farmer demonstrated the tools and machineries for extracting sugarcane juice, boiling of juice for concentration and cooling, etc.
He urged the farmers to venture into this type of farming as it was cost effective and economically beneficial.
Later, resource person ATM Tsungrozen demonstrated step by step procedures on cultivation of oyster mushroom.
He explained about selection of substrate, different methods of sterilisation, substrates preparation, inoculation of spawn and maintenance of cropping room.
A total of 37 participants attended the programme where mushroom spawn, poly bags and sugarcane stick stems were distributed.
