Agricultural Technology management Agency, Mon, conducted training on “Integrated Pest Management and Low-Cost Water Harvesting Structure at Mon” on April 13 and 14, aimed to equip the participants on essential skills on integrated and bridge the gap between traditional farming and modern technology.
In a press release by ATMA Mon, Nagaland Dy. Project Director, Subenthung Odyuo stated that the resource persons highlighted on combining traditional, eco-friendly practices with modern biological controls, avoiding synthetic chemicals using local botanical pesticides and following intercropping, crop rotation and releasing bio-agents, use of tricho-cards to maintain a sustainable ecosystem, in a eco-friendly approach while controlling the targeted Pest populations below economic threshold levels (ETL).
Participants were trained on how to make low-cost water harvesting structure with locally available resources and also constructing counter bundhs and counter trenches for a sustainable water conservation and soil management technique, significantly reducing soil erosion and allowing water to infiltrate the soil to boost moisture retention.
The resource persons for the programme were I Nuchet AO, N. Subenthung Odyuo, Dy. PD and ATMA Mon, Assist Technology Manger, Lensanok Tzuwar. Earlier, the invocation was offered by women leader Lampong Sheanghah, Mariam.
