ATMA Niuland trg on low cost vermicomposting

ATMA Dimapur, Niuland block conducted demonstration-cum-training on “low cost vermicomposting methods” to encourage success of vermicomposting and demand for organic manures on July 25 at Nihokhu village.

A press release by ATMA Dimapur stated that, interested women farmers attended the programme with ACTO (agronomy) KVK (ICAR) Jharnapani, Roben Singh as resource person. He said that earthworms being voracious eaters consume the biodegradable matter and give out a part of the matter as excreta or vermi-castings. Fruits, flowers, vegetables and other plant produce grown using vermi-compost were reported to have better keeping quality.

The beds are maintained at about 40-50% moisture content and a temperature of 20–30°C by sprinkling water over the beds. Appropriate physical distancing was maintained and COVID-19 safety kits and information pamphlets about precautionary measures were distributed to the 13 women farmers present.
