ATMA Tsaru block inaugurates sugarcane farm school at Kiding

ATMA Tsaru block, Tuensang began a “Sugarcane Farm School” at Kiding village which was inaugurated by BTM, Dr. T. Arenmongla, on May 22 wherein Yangtsechum was appointed as the farm teacher.
A press release from ATMA Tuensang, Tsaru block stated that during the programme, training and demonstration on various topics were also conducted. Resource person ATM, Khatemenla Longchar trained farmers on package and practices of sugarcane and elaborated the benefits, importance and economic aspects of sugarcane cultivation. Khatemenla also gave a demonstration on the topic package of practices of pineapple.
Resource person ATM, Tiyongnaro, gave a demonstration on pig & fish integrated farming, pig housing and application of agri lime. She explained the advantages of practicing fish & pig farming, pond preparation as well as its maintenance. The importance of good housing and site was also explained to the farmers. Besides the typical features of small scale pig housing, the farrowing plan for the sow and the piglets was described in detail. Tiyongnaro also gave a brief introduction as to why liming was required for acidic soils, the timing and the methods of lime application was instructed to them. Resource person ATM, Imlinukshi, gave a demonstration on package of practices of ginger, wherein he explained land preparation, its sowing time, manuring as well as pest and disease management.
Sudong Food Security Group (FSG) was mobilized from Kiding village. Agri lime was also distributed to the farmers and seed money was given to the newly formed FSG. Altogether 25 farmers attended the programme.
