
Phek district ATMA in collaboration with department of Agriculture organized and sponsored a district level exhibition with the theme, “runguzu farmers produces” on the 68th Republic Day celebration at Phek town, local ground to provide platform for the progressive farmers to exhibit their farm produces, indigenous tools and crafts. Varieties of cereals, pulses, millets, fruits, vegetable, poultry birds, wood and bamboo products along with farmers from other villages also exhibited their farm products. Chief guest MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu was briefed by Heweto Sema and deputy project director ATMA Phek, Dr. Keviu Shuya.
CHENWETNYU: One day demonstration programme on the topic “Cultivation of pea and its effect on soil health” using picco projector was conducted on January 27, at Chenwetnyu, Mon by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
In the programme, BTM Asangla Ozukum stressed on the economic development of the villages while resource person for the demonstration ATM Nokho Konyak explained about the production technology of pea (Pisum sativum) and the improvement of the soil health after the crop has been harvested.
He also stressed on the intercultural practices and said that such timely practice improve the production in a large scale. Staking of the crop during fruiting was also demonstrated.
Pictures of different methods of Staking and identification of different insect pest and their management were shown with the help of picco projector.
Farmers gave their feedback about the demonstration using picco projector that such innovative initiative by ATMA will make the farmers understand and learn more in the days to come.
Altogether 52 farmers attended the demonstration. Inputs were distributed among the farmers. The programme was chaired by ATM Mhachamo.
TESOPHENYU: Demonstration programme on potato cultivation was conducted by ATMA Tseminyu on January 27 at Tesophenyu under Chunlikha Block with ATM, ATMA Tseminyu Kevineituo Bier as the resource person.
In the programme, Kevineituo demonstrated on the package of practices on potato cultivation. The programme was chaired by BTM Dr. Vibeilie Keretsu, invocation by Chentsenga Chung and vote of thanks was delivered by Agwalo Mesung.
Altogether 16 farmers attended the programme and potato seeds were also distributed to them.
WAKCHING: ATMA, Wakching block conducted a two-day demonstration from January 28 and 30. Resource person ATM, Mhajamo on January 28 demonstrated on the mulching of large cardamon and emphasized its benefits on plant and soil health. ATM Lewang Konyak, demonstrated on the application of biofertilizers with special emphasis on maize. BTM Roseline pusa on January 30 demonstrated on the seed treatment, cultivation practices and maintenance of okra. The health benefits of the vegetable were shared to the farmers. Altogether 18 farmers attended the programme and okra seeds were distributed to them.
KVK NU: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University conducted training-cum-farmers scientist interaction at Atoizu town on January 30, sponsored by ATMA, Zunheboto.
SMS (Plant Protection) Toshi longkumer delivered training on “IPM on summer vegetables and maize”, while SMS (Animal Science) Dr. Nongothung Ezung spoke on the topic “poultry disease management”.
During the interaction between the scientist and the farmers, problems and solutions were discussed on insect pest and disease management on maize, summer vegetables, potato, nutrient and disease management of poultry, piggery, turkey birds and dogs. The day long programme ended with free distribution of bio-pesticides, minerals, vitamins and medicines for animals and poultry birds. Altogether 25 participants participate in the programme.
