
Agriculture technology management agency (ATMA) has been conducting various activities for farmers of the state through trainings and demonstrations during the month of September.
Wokha block: ATMA, Wokha block conducted training and demonstration programme on winter vegetable and nursery bed preparation on September 15 at Thillong village, Wokha. Training on package and practices of winter vegetables were imparted by resource persons, ATM Lily Tungoe and disease management by ATM Wokha block Elilo Kikon. Demonstration of nursery bed preparation of winter vegetables was also delivered by SMS extension KYK and BTT, convenor Wokha block, Mhalo Tungoe. Altogether, 32 farmers attended the programme. Winter vegetables seeds like cauliflower, cabbage, knol-khol, carrot, radish, spinach, coriander etc, were also distributed.
Akuluto block: ATMA, Akuluto block, organized training and demonstration for value addition and food security on September 9, at VK town. Training and demonstration on cultivation practices of multi layer farming for rabi crops and training on principles and methods of fruits and vegetables preservation and demonstration on making of fruits beverage, jam, jelly, marmalade and pickle making was conducted.
Training and demonstration was delivered by ATM, Tovi V Jimomi. He also encouraged farmers to plant more fruits trees for future generation and to consume fruits and vegetables for better long healthy life. Altogether, 27 farmers attended the programme.
Ralan block: ATMA Ralan block conducted training on cultivation practices of winter vegetables at Liphanyan village on September 19. Training was provided by ATM Nchumthung Shitirie. He appraised farmers on crop rotation as well as planting of trap crops to minimize pest infestations on the main crop. A brief session on application and preparation of neem oil was also explained. Later, demonstration on nursery seed bed preparation was conducted by ATM, Soyingbeni Tsanglao. Broccoli and cauliflower seeds were distributed to the farmers after the programme. Altogether 50 farmers attended the programme.
Chessore block: ATMA Chessore block conducted training and demonstration programme from September 4 to 6, at Kuthur, Yauner and Chessore villages with HO (Horticulture) Imnuksungba, AFA (Agriculture) Mosa and ATMA, BTM Merenjungla Pongen as resource persons.
Two training programmes on the topic “package & practices of cardamom” and “plant protection techniques on winter crops” was conducted at Kuthur village. Two demonstration programmes were also conducted on the topic “use of yellow sticky trap” and “low cost rain water harvesting technology (Jalkund) on September 5 and 6, at Yauner and Chessore villages. Seeds and various materials were distributed to the 32 farmer participants.
Wozhuro block: ATMA Wokha, Wozhuro block conducted within district farmers training, demonstration and mobilisation of self help group (SHG) on September 16 at Totsu community hall, Totsu village. Resource person, ATM Zujanbemo Khuvung spoke on the topic “package and practices of winter vegetables” and briefed about pest and disease management. BTT convenor, Shanchobeni Humtsoe demonstrated on “identification of sword and water suckers in banana” for good planting materials, “importance and role of self help group (SHG)” was highlighted by BTM Benthunglo Murry wherein Jande SHG was formed comprising of 10 members. Programme was chaired by ATM Loreni Kithan. 25 farmers along with ATMA officials attended the training.
Sanis block: ATMA Wokha, Sanis block, conducted training and demonstration on winter crops (cole crops) at Tsopo village on September 14. Training was conducted by ATM, Lothungbeni Murry. A brief introduction on crucifer crops was given and common pest found in crucifers were discussed.
Chukitong block: ATMA, Wokha, Chukitong block, conducted training on cultivation practices of winter vegetables, Cabbage and Pea, at Yanthamo village on September 10. ATM, Zachamo, delivered detailed information on cultivation techniques of winter vegetables like cabbage and pea. Demonstration on nursery bed preparation was imparted ATM, Nzani, who demonstrated on how nursery seedbed should be prepared. Altogether, 18 farmers, four ATMA officials and BTT, convener attended the programme.
Bhandari block: ATMA Wokha, Bhandari block, conducted training on packages and practices of ginger cultivation on September 17 at Bhandari town. Package and practices starting from field preparation, till harvesting was explained to the farmers by ATM, Jonjibeni Mozhui. Demonstration was also carried out by ATM, Tracy Mozhui, who identified disease as soft rot or paheli of ginger which was causing huge loss to the farmers in the cultivated areas of Bhandari Block. Altogether 16 farmers and four ATMA officials attended the same.
Ralan block: ATMA, Ralan block, conducted training on cultivation practices of winter vegetables and demonstration of nursery bed on September 19, at Liphanyan village. ATM Nchumthung Shitiri emphasized on importance of nursery bed preparations as the seeds tend to be healthier and more resistant to diseases. Demonstration programme on seed bed preparation of broccoli was carried by ATM, Soyingbeni Tsanglao. Altogether, 50 farmers attended the training programme.
Changpang block: ATMA, Changpang block, conducted training on preparation of seed bed for winter crops. Training was conducted by ATM, James, on September 17, at Changpang. He illustrated on various techniques and steps that had to be followed during seed bed preparation. Demonstration on production of compost manure was also conducted by Y Yiben Patton, using organic residues of plants, leaves. Training was attended by 12 farmers along with three ATMA functionaries.
