Aung-led NSCN (K) calls for R-Day boycott

Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) has called for boycotting the celebration of India’s Republic Day on January 26, 2019.In a statement, MIP in-charge Joseph Lamkang stated that the boycott would be effective in all the “Naga ‘Inhabited’ Land of the So-Called Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam states.”Stating that it “deeply honour” and stand by the 1951 plebiscite “wherein 99.9% Nagas voted for full sovereignty and unanimous boycott of the first Indian general election in 1952,” the group said Nagas, having a full sovereign right, had no reason to observe “India’s imposed Republic Day or Independence Day in our land.” Aung-led NSCN (K) has, therefore, called upon all Nagas to exercise their “birthright by supporting our boycott call and to refrain from the celebration.”
