Keeping in mind the present scenario of global warming and climate change, Auching Village Citizens’ Union (AVCU) (Auching Buhu Noknyu Pangthai) during a general meeting January 8 and 9 at Auching village resolved to issue written notification based on State Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
AVCU adopted resolution No. 9 clause A&B to save the drastic diminishing of flora and fauna and also resolved to ban fishing by using poisonous chemicals, battery shocking, generator etc., random cutting of any kind of standing trees and Siblings and slicing growing bamboo shoot.
Union further resolved to ban on ferrying of River belt sand and boulders, cultivating Jhum fields by any neighbouring tribes, hunting within Auching village jurisdiction and plucking of wild flowers and wild green leaves vegetables.
The union cautioned that anyone found violating its resolutions would be fined with a sum of Rs 25,000 and seizure of equipments/objects. AVCU said the notification would come into effect immediately after dispatching to all the respective organizations or government agencies from AVCU office.
In a press release, AVCU president Y Chingmei Francis Phom and the general secretary M Talem Phom said though citizen bodies were the apex body in Naga society, which holds the sole responsibilities of customary and traditional decision on any matters of respective villages, AVCU may approach governmental agencies like district administration, wildlife protection department and Nagaland forest department for further necessary action under the departmental relevant act if necessary.
