On the occasion of World Leprosy Day, various awareness programmes was organized across the state.
Tuensang: District Health Society (DHS) Tuensang conducted “Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign” under the theme ‘‘Let us all Pledge to make India Leprosy free’’ on January 30 at CMO office conference hall Tuensang.
According to DMO Tuensang, Kupje Buchem and deputy CMO, Dr. I. Temsu Longchar, DC & chairman DHS Tuensang, Jamithung Lotha in his brief speech on leprosy informed that leprosy can be treated and therefore urged the health workers to work hard and give awareness to the mass so that the patients avail medical treatment.
The programme was chaired by deputy CMO Tuensang, Dr. I. Temsu Longchar, invocation by para medical worker, Lachiba Chang, while vote of thanks was delivered by health assistant Tuensang, Tsupai.
DIMAPUR: In Dimapur, the day was commemorated at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office with the launching of SPARSH leprosy awareness campaign.
During the programme, Dr. Heto, ZLO, NLEP reoriented the gatherings on the objective of SPARSH Leprosy Awareness campaign.
He further informed that during the campaign, the health workers will visit public areas such as railway station, bus terminals and hospitals to spread awareness.
According to latest statistics, Dr. Heto said that the bulk of leprosy cases in Nagaland were from Dimapur district.
He also appreciated the staff of NLEP for their sincerity and dedication.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Antoly, said that “Leprosy is a disease that can be trace back to ancient times and it is still prevalent today”. However, Leprosy was a totally curable disease and no stigma attached to it.
She further urged the Health workers to carry out the campaign with love and compassion so that patients may come forward and seek medical help.
Dr. Antoly led the participants in taking the SPARSH Leprosy pledge to work together and fulfil the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to create a Leprosy-Free India.
AR Mokokchung Battalion: Assam Rifles Mokokchung battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a lecture-cum- awareness programme on leprosy to mark the day.
Capt Saurav Dhand, unit Medical officer educated the elders and youth about the symptoms and signs of leprosy, precautions to prevent leprosy, importance of proper treatment and eradication. The awareness programme concluded with refreshments for the villagers and the pledge to spread awareness to the remotest areas of the region.
