A one-day awareness programme cum seed and input distribution on promotion of pulses in NEH Region (Nagaland) was organized at Kitami village, Zunheboto district on March 7 under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Kharif Pulses (AICRP) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh under the NEH (Program).
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Kavi Sumi, scientist (plant pathology), who outlined the objectives of the programme and emphasised its importance in enhancing pulse productivity and strengthening pulse production across Nagaland. He encouraged farmers to cultivate more pulses to meet nutritional requirements, ensure economic sustainability, and improve soil health. The farmers actively interacted with scientists from AICRP on Kharif Pulses, SAS, Medziphema, including Dr. Akumla Longchar (plant breeding), Kavi Sumi (plant pathology), and Dr. Rokozeno (entomology).
As part of the programme, Pigeon Pea and Green Gram seeds along with agricultural implements such as field caps, scrappers, and knapsack sprayers were distributed to the farmers to support farm operations and enhance productivity. The participating farmers expressed appreciation for the practical and skill-oriented nature of the programme and requested that more such initiatives be organised in the future to strengthen pulse extension services in Nagaland.
A total of 44 farmers from Kitami, Ghokimi, Tsaphimi, Punheboqa, and Asukiqa village participated in the programme.
