DIMAPUR: Akehda Amulung Kiphire (AAK), the Implementing Support Agency (ISA) for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), in collaboration with the District Administration Kiphire, organised an awareness programme on addiction at the ZPC Auditorium, Kiphire on July 23.
According to a press release, the awareness session on “Say No to Drugs – Yes to Life” was delivered by Col. Rajiv Sharma, Commandant, 30 Assam Rifles.
He explained that addiction was not confined to drugs alone but could also include unhealthy habits and behaviours. Many people, he said, do not chase drugs but seek relief from stress, loneliness, frustration and emotional pain.
Encouraging participants to safeguard their mental health, Col. Sharma urged them to build strong family relationships and maintain positive friendships to prevent addiction. He outlined the six stages of recovery-denial, awareness, planning, action, relapse and freedom-emphasising that recovery is a gradual journey requiring small positive decisions each day. He reminded that relapse is not the end but an opportunity to begin again with determination.
He further stressed that discipline can replace dependence, confidence can replace guilt, and true victory comes from mastering oneself. Advising participants to use technology wisely, he cautioned against allowing it to control their lives.
The programme also featured an anti drug pledge administered by CEO Irothe T. Sangtam, followed by certificate distribution. It concluded with a vote of thanks and a plantation drive, reaffirming the commitment of AAK and its partners towards building a drug free and responsible society.
