A one-day awareness programme on “Child Rights & Child Protection” was organised by the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) in collaboration with KNK, Ahthibung, at Town Hall, Ahthibung headquarters, Peren, on April 18.
Delivering the keynote address, NSCPCR chairman, Alun Hangsing, said, “Where children are respected and protected, God resides there.” He stressed that children are the backbone of the future and society depends on them, urging citizens to nurture positive mental well-being among children.
A short speech was delivered by Thanghao Lenthang, secretary of Kuki GBs Association Nagaland.
During the technical sessions, Lichani Murry, legal consultant, NSCPCR, spoke on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, highlighting the need for care, protection and treatment with respect to children’s rights, and stressed on adoption processes with a child-friendly approach.
Akumla Longchari, member NSCPCR, spoke on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, describing it as a stringent law safeguarding children below 18 years from sexual abuse and exploitation. She emphasized that many children continue to suffer in silence and called for strict implementation of the Act.
On the Right to Education (RTE), Aying Wangsha, member NSCPCR, urged all stakeholders—including government, educators, parents, churches and civil societies—to work together to ensure every child is in school, stressing that education is the key to empowerment.
The programme was chaired by Neiting Haokip, chairperson KNK, Ahthibung, while the vote of thanks was delivered by T. Sulanthung, SDO (C), Ahthibung HQ, Peren.
