Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR), in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Tuensang, organised a one-day awareness programme on Child Rights and Child Protection at Chang Khuli Setshang Hall, Tuensang on October 7.
According to DIPR report, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, addressing the gathering, emphasized that every child was unique and deserves protection, care, and equal opportunity without discrimination or abuse. She noted that unreported cases of family abuse persist across communities and must be addressed urgently. Rutsa called upon elders, public leaders, NGOs, student bodies, and parents to uphold child rights and ensure protection across the district. She also expressed appreciation to all participants for their presence and support.
Guest resource speakers included Legal Consultant NSCPCR, Lichani Murry; NSCPCR members, Akumla Longchari and Aying Wangsha, who spoke on various topics including the Juvenile Justice Act, Adoption Rules, strengthening the POCSO Act, and the Right to Education with a focus on child labour. The keynote address was delivered by secretary, Social Welfare and Secretary NSCPCR, Yongchingkumla, NCS. The programme was chaired by Project Coordinator, Hongen Thangty Chang. DCPO Tuensang, Yangtriba Sangtam, presented a brief report on child-related cases in the district. An open discussion on Child Rights and Protection was also held to deepen understanding and reinforce the importance of safeguarding children.
