Can Youth, in partnership with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), launched a Community First Responder Preparedness Program at the Rongmei Customary Court in Chungaizaeng Colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur on January 27. The initiative, aimed at strengthening community resilience and empowering youth in disaster preparedness and response was launched by DC Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang.
DC Dimapur, who is also the chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), highlighted the critical need for preparedness against floods, fires, and earthquakes. He stressed the importance of 24/7 readiness, regular mock drills, and collaboration with expert trainers. Dr. Tinojongshi further acknowledged infrastructure challenges, particularly limited road access for emergency vehicles, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to overcome these obstacles.
Delivering key note address, Zhove Lohe, secretary and director, Can Youth, emphasized the crucial role of youth in disaster response, citing the 2014 flood in Chungaizaeng as a stark reminder of the need for community preparedness. Naro, representing the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), commended the efforts of Can Youth trainers and encouraged the youth to participate in such initiatives.
