DIMAPUR: Under the Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan (MRMA) 2.0 campaign, an awareness programme and technology demonstration on improved sericulture practices and sustainable silkworm rearing in Eri and Mulberry was conducted at Aoyimkum village, Dimapur.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Anitharani KV, Scientist B, and Mhayamo Murry, Senior Technical Assistant, from REC Dimapur, along with Oyimpong, SFA DoS, Dimapur.
The session focused on creating awareness among farmers about scientific practices to enhance silkworm health, cocoon quality and productivity. Key aspects discussed included rearing house disinfection, proper use of bed disinfectants, soil sampling for host plant nutrient assessment, and scientific mounting technologies for obtaining quality cocoons.
A practical demonstration on the application of bed disinfectants was also conducted to provide farmers with hands on knowledge of their correct and effective use. Farmers were sensitised on maintaining hygienic conditions in rearing houses and adopting preventive measures to minimise microbial and viral diseases. The importance of soil sampling was highlighted as an essential component of host plant management, enabling farmers to understand nutrient status and adopt appropriate practices for better leaf production.
Altogether 38 farmers participated in the programme, along with officials from the Central Silk Board Research Extension Centre (REC), Dimapur, and the Department of Sericulture (DoS), Nagaland.
