The launching programme of health awareness programme on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), was held at CMO’s Conference Hall, Dimapur on October 20. The programme was launched under the partnership programme between department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland State rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), and Christian Institute of Health Science Research (CIHSR), and would be initially implemented in Medziphema Block under Chumoukedima district.
A press release from IEC section CMO office informed that, at the launching programme State Programme Officer, National Programme for NCD Dr. Alemwabang Aier, highlighted the introduction to NCD awareness programme.
Dr. Aier said NCD were chronic in nature and non-contagious but not transmissible from one person to other.
He mentioned that according to world health organization 2019 report, death toll from NCD reached 71%, while the report from 2018 reached 63% in India.
He further informed that NCD may include wide spectrum of medical disorders like cancers, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and stroke etc, which caused significant morbidity and mortality, both in urban and rural population and across all socio-economic strata with considerable loss in potentially productive years of life.
Chief Operating Officer, NSRLM M. Rollan Lotha, while presenting the introduction to NSRLM stated that NSRLM have initiated in 2012 and has been working with women in rural areas to empower them socio-economically through sustainable income generation. He informed that 27 villages under Medziphema Block have been covered and more villages will be added soon.
Head of Department, Community Health, CIHSR Dr. Atsung Aier, also briefly oriented on the CIHSR Community Programmes while presenting the objectives of Health Awareness Programme on NCD. The programme was chaired by Dy.CMO Dr. Antoly Suu while CMO Dimapur Dr. Limatula Aier welcomed the gatherings and SMO CHC Medziphema Dr. Temjensunep, delivered the vote of thanks.
